Code of conduct

The purpose of the code of conduct is to create the best working environment possible for everyone. As a visitor you agree to follow library staff's instructions and directions, library information signs and the rules below.

Show consideration for other visitors

  • Avoid using perfume and other strong scents when you visit the library.

  • Smoking, including the use of e-cigarettes, and drinking alcohol are not permitted in the library.

  • No animals are allowed in the library except guide dogs.

Peaceful study environment and noise level

  • Show consideration by keeping the noise down.

  • Use the quiet areas and reading rooms for focused work. Conversations in designated areas only.

  • Turn off the sound on your phone, computer and other devices. Use headphones/headset if you are going to take part in digital lectures or listen to music, and make sure that the sound does not leak out. You can borrow headphones from the information desk if you need them.

Security and tidiness

  • Keep an eye on your belongings - the library is not responsible for personal items.

  • Leave your study place as you would want to find it. Furniture, technical equipment and other fixtures and fittings must be treated with care.

  • Any books which you have taken from the shelves but do not wish to borrow should be left on the shelf for returned books or given to library staff to put back in the right place.

Food and drink

  • You may not eat cooked food on library premises. However, you are welcome to bring and eat simple snacks such as sandwiches, buns, fruit, sweets, and drinks with lids.

  • Dispose of rubbish and recycling in the designated containers.

Thank you for being considerate and making the library a safe and pleasant place for everyone!

Contact the staff if you have questions, or if something feels wrong.
